Hop eld Networks for Solving Tower of Hanoi Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, Hop eld neural networks have been considered in solving tower of Hanoi test which is used in determining of de cit of planning capability of human prefrontal cortex. The main di erence of this work from the ones in the literature which use neural networks, is: The tower of Hanoi problem has been formulated here as a special shortest path problem. In the literature, some Hop eld networks are developed for solving the shortest path problem which is a combinatorial optimization problem having a diverse application eld. The approach given in this work gives the possibility of solving the tower of Hanoi problem using these Hop eld networks. Also, the paper proposes new Hop eld network models for shortest path and hence for tower of Hanoi problems and compares them to the available ones in terms of the memory and time (number of steps) needed in the simulations.

Knoblock School of Computer Science Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, PA 15213 [email protected] Abstract This paper describes an automated approach to generating abstractions for the Tower of Hanoi and analyzes the use of these abstractions for problem solving. The analysis shows that the learned abstractions produce an exponential reduction in the size of the...
متن کاملGesture offers insight into problem-solving in adults and children
When asked to explain their solutions to a problem, both adults and children gesture as they talk. These gestures at times convey information that is not conveyed in speech and thus reveal thoughts that are distinct from those revealed in speech. In this study, we use the classic Tower of Hanoi puzzle to validate the claim that gesture and speech taken together can reflect the activation of two...
متن کاملTower of Hanoi: evidence for the cost of goal retrieval.
Past research on the Tower of Hanoi problem has provided clear evidence for the importance of goal-subgoal structures in problem solving. However, the nature of the traditional Tower of Hanoi problem makes it impossible to determine whether there is any special cost associated with storing or retrieving goals. A variation of the Tower of Hanoi problem is described that allows one to determine s...
متن کاملTower of Hanoi disk-transfer task: Influences of strategy knowledge and learning on performance
Tower of Hanoi has become a popular tool in cognitive and neuropsychology to assess a set of behaviors collectively referred to as executive functions. Substantial variability in performance on the Tower of Hanoi (TOH) disk-transfer task among normally functioning young adults, and potential contributions to these individual differences, were examined. In this expanded 60-problem version of the...
